Originating from the Rhone valley in France, the Syrah is a late ripening (3rd period) variety which was introduced into the Valais in 1926.
Tasting notes
Deep red colour with hints of violet. The nose is full of fruity fragrances of blackcurrant and blackberry wrapped in a touch of black pepper and cloves. Sound and mellow attack. A gourmand, lively, fresh and generous wine with a wonderfully persistent finish.
Food-wine pairing
Excellent with game and wildfowl, hot spicy roasted meats, chestnut-stuffed turkey, soft and half surface-ripened cheeses, soft cheeses with a washed rind and semi-hard cheeses.
